The Beginnings
The Fort Macleod Chiropractic Triathlon was founded in 2004 by Dr. Alan and Lorraine Poytress, driven by a passion for triathlon and a desire to build a lasting community tradition. As an experienced triathlete, Dr. Alan wanted to create an event that not only celebrated athletic achievement but also brought the community together.
The first event, a modest but ambitious start, quickly captured the attention and participation of local athletes and families. Dr. Alan’s vision was simple yet powerful: a race where people of all ages and abilities could come together to challenge themselves, cross the finish line, and share in the pride of accomplishment. Over the years, that vision turned into a cherished tradition for Fort Macleod and the surrounding area.
The triathlon’s growth over time was fueled by the unwavering support of Lorraine, their children, and countless volunteers, along with the commitment of the local community. The event quickly grew from a small gathering into a major community event, drawing participants from across southern Alberta.

In its early years, the event had a strong focus on family involvement, welcoming participants of all ages and fitness levels to join in the fun. From the beginning, every finisher received a well-earned medal, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their time or place, left with a sense of achievement.

What started as a dream by Dr. Alan and Lorraine has now become one of the longest-running triathlons in southern Alberta. As the event continues to grow, it remains true to its roots—an inclusive, family-friendly celebration of community, health, and perseverance.
